What an adventurous day. Our local DAR Chapter had the potluck/meeting before the Summer Break. I remember when Bev and I were both struggling to get verified for qualification for DAR Membership. Now she is an officer and I am a volunteer Genealogist. This means I get to knock down brick walls and find all the skeletons. Oh what fun. I was surrounded by water driving home - praying that my vehicle would not be required to take a swim. I made it home and live on higher grounds so home is where I am going to stay until this flood goes away. June 23, 2016
Last year was the One Thousand Year Flood - I have survived California Fires courtesy of the Santa Ana Winds and Earthquakes courtesy of the San Andreas Fault, I have never seen a tornado and a Hurricane Party is one of the things on my bucket list that isn't likely to happen but this flood was one of the most devastating disasters that I have been close to.
There are several housebound seniors in my apartment. I was able to find and deliver water/food/cleaning supplies to them. I would have like to have done more but at least I was able to do something. I had my mission and other people had theirs/

I listened to Trump very carefully during his rallies. One of the promises that he made was that he was going to "fix the inner cities." I believe that the inner cities need to fix themselves but they can use a supportive hand.
Trump met with a group of black college professors in February. There was a photo of him surrounded by the professors while he was signing an executive order on Black Colleges. The reality is that he was signing an order to move the funds earmarked for black colleges from the Department of Education into the hands of Steve Brannon.
Civil Rights Congressman of Georgia declined to attend Trump's inauguration explaining " I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president. . . . I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.
Trump responded with Twitter
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!
Trump later said on Twitter:
Congressman John Lewis should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S. I can use all the help I can get!

Despite Trump’s racist slurs to the contrary, all black communities are not dystopian hellscapes. Lewis’ district is affluent and contains several of the leading universities in the United States.
By comparison, Lewis has given decades of his life to public service. Trump has spent decades of his life making himself richer often at the expense of the public.
Ironically, Trump was asking for help from John Lewis but has ignored the letter from the Black Congressional Caucus

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has declined a proposed meeting with Donald Trump citing its conviction that the Republican president’s policies “will devastate black communities”, and the administration’s unresponsiveness to the CBC to date.
“Given the lack of response to any of the many concerns we have raised with you and your administration, we decline your invitation for all 49 members of the Congressional Black Caucus to meet with you. The CBC, and the millions of people we represent, have a lot to lose under your administration. I fail to see how a social gathering would benefit the policies we advocate for,” the caucus said in a letter.

FEET Washing utililized by CONGRESS and others!!!!

Years ago, I taught Sunday School and decided to shake it up a bit to make it more interesting. We did a Feet Washing Ritual. There was a good mix of of different races and background. The loved it.
There are simply ways to make amends. Simple kindnesses are a way to make amends. A few years ago, my and I were dining at the local Chinese Restaurant. I noticed that one of my favorite Wal-Mart Customers - an elderly black woman was dining alone. I anonymously paid her tab. I am not sure that is an amends because I have done the same for white folks.
Another time, I pulled ahead of a Hispanic woman in a drive through line. I was going to let her go first but she wave me to go ahead. I paid for her order. I was making amends because of my own thoughtlessness not her color.
Last week, I attended a Workshop on reparation and healing wounds cause by racism. This is a ceremony with a religious background that can be used to heal inner wounds. One person receives empowerment while the other learns humility. White people were washing the feet for people of color.
My thought was "The Senators and Congressmen should do it for each other. Alabama Senator Luther Strange can wash New Jersey Cory Booker's feet. Georgia Congressman John Lewis can wash Senator John McCain's Feet. Sarah Palin can wash Maxine Water's feet. Rosie O'Donnell can wash Donald Trump's feet and afterwards Obama and Trump can totally baptize each other.
Can you visualize the SFF bloggers in the political debates washing the opponent's feet. Leaf and Lizzie. Maggie and Biggie. North Dakota and Maisie. I will personally wash Dan's and Mrs. Joe's feet and toss in some reflexology.
Afterward, I will call my Jamaican gentleman friend - tell him that he needs to make me some hot chocolate with marshmallows - so that I can savor it while he massages my feet. It will be fun and we will all get spiritual. .

Our SAYMA Yearly Meeting focused on the topic of Lifting Up Racial Justiced Last year, the meeting was focused on Unraveling Racism. It got really ugly. I suspect the reason we covered this topic AGAIN was to get it right this year.
Politically Incorrect or otherwise,  I felt like smacking the Goddess of Discord who created so much chaos last year. I felt like knocking her soapbox by hitting her in the azzzzzz with a slingshot. I contained myself. Lecturing Quakers about racism is like preaching to the choir. They were the ones who organized and ran the Underground Railroad.
I told myself that I would not attend any workshops on Racism however one was being ran by an individual that I highly respect so I opted to go. The topic was reparation.
Some of my thoughts on the topic.
Is slavery that occurred over 150 years ago the cause of problems that some modern day black Americans experience? White indentured servants worked along side slaves and were often more harshly treated. The Irish costs less than the slave. There were Japanese Internment camps. Holocaust survivors migrated to the United States.
Granted black Americans have been treated worse than other group but other groups bounced back with regardless of how their ancestors were treated in the past.
Is it possible that reparation has already been paid. Affirmation Action, Equal Housing Opportunity, Educational Scholarships. Who pays it and who gets it.

Snowflakes fall to the right and left melting all over the place when other perspectives are not allowed if they oppose ours. It justifies name-calling and disrespect.

What is it we seek, to march in unison to the same tune in utter sameness? Never looking outside that box to hold a world where everybody and everything had been decolorized,
Art, music, movies, theater, literature and comedy will support the paperdoll society where nobody thinks for themselves.
We will silence our critics and shut off the news stream, censoring and suing our way to enforced ignorance and servitude.
We will "protect" our from ideas different than our own and teach them only a singular world view. We will erect walls to keep out the many enemies of our freedom.

I am glad that our West Virginia Democrat Senator has more common sense that Waters.

My THOUGHTS on Lifting up Racial Justice

Last year's SAYMA yearly meeting was very intense. The theme was "Unravel Racism." So this year the theme is "Lifting Up Racial Justice." Ugh!
Why Ugh?
Last year we were advised by an individual that we are well-meaning and clueless white Friends ," along with designated, hand-picked, go-to Black Friends are not willing to challenge us? We were lectured on the evils of slavery.
Dah! When someone approaches me like that - my inclination is to walk away.
Granted, I am the descendant of slave-owners but I don't own any slaves. I don't know any black people who are slaves except may the ones who are incarcerated along with the white prisoners. My inclination is to believe that most of them put themselves there as a consequence of their own bad choices.
It is my view that all people regardless of color, religion, sexual orientation or identity, ad infinitum deserve to feel safe, treated with dignity and fairness. Sadly, life is not always fair. I can do activism to assure that folks are treated fairly in the legal sense but I can't change the mindset of bigoted racist, xenophobic, misogynist anti-humanist individuals. I don't even bother to argue with them. I just walk away with the realization that they will eventually die out with the rest of the dinosaurs.
Friday night, we have a speaker who be talking about issues with racial injustices. This is a woman of color that I absolutely respect. I will be leading a Worship Sharing Query on the issue. The other workshops will be on Quaker Activism and Earth Care. I will be officially joining the Quaker Earth Care Committee. I have been doing it unofficially for the past year.

My younger has the dark hair, dark eyes and caramel skin tone that goes with his Iberian peninsula ancestry but he speaks fluent West Virginian. He travels to Florida is the Winter to work concession stands at the State Fair, Carnivals and Gatherings.
His co-workers are amused when the Cubans bypass them - walk straight up to Billy and start talking to him in Spanish. Ironically, it is my blond fair, blue eyed who speaks Spanish. Billy says that he is learning Spanish.
I remember a group of young men going through my line to purchase beer and wine. I checked their ID and declined the sale. They were speaking Spanish among themselves.
The next customer commented, "They are in WEST VIRGINIA!!!! They need to speak ENGLISH. It's the official language of West Virginia."
"The gentlemen are from Puerto Rico. Technically they are Americans but they maintain their cultural identity language in Puerto Rico. English is their economic language" I replied.
Technically, my DNA is 92 percent British but my 2nd Grandparents did speak German. I suspect that they had to learn English real fast when they migrated to Kentucky.
I migrated from Southern California to West Virginia in 1999. I still haven't mastered West Virginian but my has.

SEN. MARCO RUBIO:. Mr. Comey, I would just like to know why you continued to answer the President’s calls?  [
DIR. JAMES COMEY: Well, as I stated in open session I tried to avoid the president’s calls, but he was persistent and I did not feel comfortable ignoring him.
RUBIO: So, in a way you encouraged the calls?
COMEY: I wouldn’t say so.
RUBIO: But you did answer them, did you not? You could see just as easily as any of the rest of us when the president was calling.
COMEY: I answered the calls in a way I felt was appropriate.
RUBIO: If the calls made you feel so uncomfortable, as you say they do, it seems to me that you would just ignore them completely. Ghosting is a very easy and effective tactic, Mr. Comey. Had you not answered the president’s calls or texts for several weeks, I am confident he would have gotten the message.
(Long pause)
COMEY: I’m sorry was — what was your question?
RUBIO: Mr. Comey, why did you not simply ghost the president instead of leading him on?
COMEY: I did not feel comfortable ghosting the president of the United States. He has a great deal of authority and, as this committee is aware, he has a temper. I did not want to escalate the situation further.
RUBIO: That frankly seems a little melodramatic, Mr. Comey. The President has never persistently called or harassed me so I just can’t imagine he would do that to you. Honestly Mr. Comey, you should be flattered and honored that a powerful man like the president is paying attention to you. You’re going to miss that kind of attention when it’s gone. (Sighs) With that said, I yield my remaining time to the Senator from Arkansas.
SEN. TOM COTTON: Mr. Comey, could you not have just told the president you were already in a patronage relationship with another party?
COMEY: Senator, I — what?
COTTON: It seems to me there are numerous ways you could have alleviated the president’s interest in you. You could have easily told him you were already seeing another leader and that you appreciated his attention but could not reciprocate appropriately at this time.
COMEY: Sir, I am not comfortable lying to the president of the United States. It also does not seem fair that I should be forced to lie my way out of an inappropriate situation with a man in power.
COTTON: Mr. Comey I don’t want to speak for everyone on this panel, but I know I am not the only Republican who, during the election, informed Mr. Trump that I was really trying to focus on my career and couldn’t engage in a personal relationship of the kind he was looking for. Sometimes these are just the things that must be done to maintain decorum and propriety. I don’t appreciate the implication that you are somehow afforded a different set of social norms than the rest of us.
COMEY: Senator Cotton I am just a little confused about your assertion that I should assume such behavior is normal and prepare myself accordingly. It did not, and does not, seem to me to be too much to go to the Inauguration and not have someone initiate an unwanted hug. I just find it ludicrous that I should have to tell a grown man that I am already in a patronage relationship with someone else to ensure that I not contacted in improper ways.
COTTON: Mr. Comey it is troubling to me that you seem to be living in a different D.C. than the rest of us. Senator Blunt, I have completed my questioning.
SEN. ROY BLUNT: Thank you, Senator Cotton. Mr. Comey, on Inauguration Day, when you say you were trying to avoid the president’s attention in the Blue Room, what were you wearing?
COMEY: I don’t — could you rephrase I think I’m misunderstanding?
BLUNT: What were you wearing, Mr. Comey?
COMEY: A — suit?
BLUNT: This blue suit? (holds up an enlarged photo of the meeting)
COMEY: Um yes that is a photo of the interaction.
BLUNT: Mr. Comey has your wife told you on occasion that suit quote “really brings out the blue in your eyes”?
COMEY: Wait, how… what?
BLUNT: Just answer the question, Mr. Comey. Are you or are you not aware that blue suit brings out the color in your eyes in a way that is appealing to others?
COMEY: I — yes. To my recollection, I have been told that before.
BLUNT: Then you are aware of the effect you have on others when wearing that suit?
COMEY: My mother told me not to brag about myself but yes, others have told me that I (shrugs) cut a striking figure in that suit.
BLUNT: Then you cannot hold Mr. Trump accountable for the fact that he was drawn to you, correct?
COMEY: What?
BLUNT: Mr. Comey it is a straightforward question — you wore that suit knowing it would appeal to men like Mr. Trump and then when it did and he hugged you, you acted like it was shocking and appalling, correct?
COMEY: I — that did not cross my mind in such words but I suppose it could be construed that way.
BLUNT: I would like the record to show that Mr. Comey admitted to purposefully wearing his best “come hither” suit.
COMEY: Now wait a—
BLUNT: I will yield the rest of my time, thank you Mr. Comey.
SEN. RICHARD BURR: This committee has to adjourn for a vote, but I would like to thank Mr. Comey for his time and willingness to participate in this hearing. We have much deliberation and discussion ahead of us but I do feel comfortable admonishing Mr. Comey, much in the way you yourself admonished former Secretary Clinton. A great deal of the issues you are dealing with now would not exist if you had not presented yourself as available and open to such advances from President Trump. There are things you can do so as to make sure you do not appear to be asking for this. Something I hope you consider in the future. And with that, we are adjourned.
