The Wedding

I will start with a little bit of information about the state emblems before we commence the ceremony

Suze is from Western Australia and the animal is the Numbat, the flower is red and green kangaroo paw.

Den is from Queensland and the animal is the Koala, the flower is Cooktown orchid.

So the sleepy old Koala and the delicate little numbat had been chatting for a while and getting to know each other, one day they decided that they would put their Kangaroo paw and orchid together and create their very own special garden……which brings us to the ceremony.

Could the flower girl please hold Suze’s flowers and the best man please hold the groom? Suze and Den please face each other and hold hands while we say the vows.

Suze repeat after me: I Suze promise to, tolerate Den’s lazy ass, when he sleeps, after gorging on eucalyptus leaves. And I promise, to prevent him falling from his sleepy perch, by scratching his butt before he climbs his eucalypt tree.

Den repeat after me: I Den promise to, only climb eucalyptus trees that have, plenty of dead wood and undergrowth around them, to provide a good home for Suze. And I promise, to prevent Suze from doing anything, other than sticking out her long tongue, by scratching and foraging, for the best termite nests to provide food for her.

Suze do you take this Koala to help you spread the population of kangaroo paws?
Den do you take this Numbat to help you spread the population of Orchids?

By the power vested in me by myself I now pronounce you Mr and Mrs, you may now go forth, scratch butts, stick out your tongue and plant flowers.

The winter season is time to clear the land of fallen trees and other debri. Winter is the only time we are allowed to have a bonfire without a permit to burn off.

The second pic was taken through the window of my work place after a summer storm.

These pictures of a pair of masked lapwing plovers and their offspring are not quite as interesting as the story behind them.

Last year I had what I thought was the same bird walking around my front yard and pecking at its reflection in my tinted glass doors. I later discovered that there were actually 2 birds when I saw them with their offspring. What I found interesting was the way they defended their young and kept it from harm as it wondered around the road and nature strips. A group of riding their scooters along the road were chased and squawked at. Anyone walking too close had the same treatment. These birds would even stand in the middle of the road squawking at cars, one on the road the other ushering the young one to safety. I was at home ill at the time and saw these antics going on every day.

One day I saw that the young one had been run over and was lying in the driveway across the road from me and I thought that the birds would be gone before much longer. To my surprise they both stood close by their young in the driveway squawking out all night in the pouring rain. It was almost as if they were holding a funeral and I realized just how much family orientated behavior these birds displayed. They both stayed there for days on end not letting anyone go near, eventually the young one had been taken off the drive way by animal or human I am not sure as the neighbor had not been home during this time. I thought the birds would move on after that but no they are still here have been here the whole time getting ready to start their antics all over again this year. I found it very interesting to learn from the behavior of these birds that they have a family structure as we humans do including staying close to home. I wonder how many years they will stay here and how many offspring they might have in what now seems to be their home.

A travelling companion and I had stopped off to tour through the Jenolan Caves. On the other side of the mountain we stopped at a small clearing marked rest stop . There was no toilet just a small grassy slope and a little gully just three feet away. To the gully I went avoiding the stinging nettle all over the ground.

About 3 quarters of an hour driving up the mountain we came to a beautiful view of the mountains and gullies where we stopped to take some pictures. Snapping away at the scenery/GREENERY I suddenly felt something bite me!

The pain was severe and without a second thought I dropped my jeans to my knees and was shocked at what I saw. Perched on my knickers was a huge GREEN ant with big red nippers!

I brushed it away and yelled at my friend, I need something cold the burning pain was too much! He had a can of cold beer that he’d just got out of the camp fridge so without hesitation I snatched if from him.

Why he was laughing so much while I was in pain I did not find amusing but when I look at the whole scene I understand why it was so funny (just not at that time). Blimey what a sight for the passing travelers…..me standing on the side of the road with my jeans around my knees and a cold can of beer pressed to my groin.

The big GREEN ant must have crawled onto the leg of my jeans . I don’t have a picture of the big GREEN ant he died on that day at the foot of my mate but blimey the three big welts that this creature gave me lasted for weeks. True story!

I have been paying attention to the times it takes me to drive to different places from my house and have found that it takes less than 10 minutes to drive to the supermarket, my doctor’s surgery, take away foods such as Chinese, Thie, Italian even McDonalds and KFC are all within my area. It takes me 10 minutes to drive to my ’s and 10 minutes will get me to work. Although the best location I can drive to in 10 minutes is our local waterway.

A 10 minute drive also takes me to the top of Presidents Hill lookout which of course is my foto Friday this week. The first 2 pictures I borrowed from Google maps simply to give you and idea of the location. The last picture I took from the top of Presidents Hill Lookout a few months ago…I think it is one of my favorites.
