All that my heart wishes
আমার পরান যাহা চায়

All that my heart wishes for
You are the one, that you are.
In this world, apart from you
I have no one, nothing have I.

If pleasure you do not find
Go in search of happiness.
I have found you within me
Nothing more I desire.

Pining for you, in your absence
My self will fade, to live in you.
Long be the day, long be the night
Long be months and years that go by.

If you love someone else
If you never return
Then whatever you covet
That may you get
May all suffering be mine

The poem/Tagore song is for those who like to recite such poems when their beloved prefer to leave them alone to bear the torments of rejections!

Cayle said, “Last summer I planted bleeding heart roots in one end of my patio garden. I need to clean away the dead leaves and debris but I’m nervous about accidentally pulling the plants up. I can see something is growing in there but I don’t recognize anything there that looks like the plants did last summer. Could you describe what bleeding hearts look like when they first come up in the spring?”

Am I Expecting Too Much?

Is it too much to expect for living in peace and harmony ?

The appended picture reveals to us something that can change the whole world if it could be practiced and followed initially by each one of us who may practice different faiths anywhere –right from North to South, from East to West!

Could it be possible for the Christians to perform mass not requiring the fellow Muslim neighbors make a ring around their churches for protecting the devotees?

Could it be possible for the Muslim devotees to say prayers in peace not requiring the fellow Christian brothers make a safety ring around their open prayer ground?

Could it be really accomplished during our life time?

I do not know whether this could be done in the near future or within next fifty years!
I could only ponder on it.
However, I could only forecast that unless we learn quickly to live in peace and harmony side by side everywhere in this planet, our chance to survive in this world is racing away from us very rapidly and the doomsday is not far from us. We shall only destroy ourselves!

My Favorite Dahlias!!

Dahlias are my favorite flowers. They are my delight! May be, it is also the delight of each and every gardener too!! A good gardener takes special care to grow Dahlias though this particular kind of flower that comes in now in a burst of bright colors with sizes varying from small bulbs to huge ones, can be grown almost everywhere in this planet with little effort!

There was a time when dahlias used to grow in the wild, mostly in Mexico, on its own as a gift from the nature to those who loved flowers! In other words, it will not be wrong to say that dahlia is native to Mexico.
'
The tubers were also grown as a food crop by the Aztecs, but no more. The practice died out after the Spanish conquest of Mexico.
The Aztecs also used them to treat epilepsy, and employed the long hollow stem of the dahlia for water pipes.

It was declared the national flower of Mexico in 1963.

However, we can see it now blooming in the gardens throughout the world, in various sizes, and colors, that are really feasts for the eyes!

My readers, who are interested to learn more about this delightful flower, may please consult the free encyclopedia initially. Meantime they may kindly view some of the picture of these colorful flowers here under:

THOUGHTS ON THE LAST DAY OF THE PASSING YEAR

Perhaps, we all are wondering how 365 days have flown away in a hurry! However, on the last day of the year that is about to slip into history, we can at least go to sleep saying "Thank YOU" to the passing year!

As the year 2015 crosses the finishing line, let us thank the One who bestowed on us His love and blessings throughout the year.

Let us also remember all the innocent people who were the victims of senseless killings unleashed throughout the world during the year and let us pray for those departed souls so that they could rest in peace.

Here is an extract from the song that I shall sing tonight before going to bed:

Quote. Be gone the refuses and remnants of the year

Let go old memories, let go forgotten melodies
Let teardrops vaporize and fade into the distant skies.

Wipe away weariness, eradicate infirmity
Bathed in fire, may the earth gain purity.......... Unquote

Wishing all my readers a happy and prosperous New Year. Let the New Year 2016 bring happiness and peace everywhere in this planet. Let the human beings learn to live side by side with each other.

***Extract from the song written by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. English Translation: Rumela Sengupta.

Wish, I Had Listened...

WISH, I HAD LISTENED ....

I have learned not by chance but by the hard way what happens to one eventually if one skips proper meals regularly for reasons that may not have any basis at all. Yes, I skipped my proper breakfast and Lunch as I could never woke up from sleep in the morning before 11 AM.
I used to take a piece of brown bread and jam along with a cup of strong tea as breakfast. Sometimes, I used to skip lunch totally if the part time maid failed to come to prepare meals for me as I did not like to go out for taking lunch in a restaurant.

Initially I did not feel any problem for my irregular eating habits that I developed after I retired from active job and started to live alone in my own house. However, the practice of skipping a complete breakfast and lunch made me weak gradually. It caused long- term effects on my body that contributed to the development of some chronic conditions requiring medical attentions

As mentioned at above, I have learned the hard way what happens if we skip meal intentionally for various reasons! Here are some medical conditions that may happen to us for skipping meals:

It may cause our blood sugar levels drop and as a result our bodies may experience a shortage of energy. We are all aware of that food intakes supply our bodies with the fuel that a body needs to run properly! Glucose is needed for optimal blood brain activity as well as for normal functioning of all the organs of a human body. Here under mentioned what may happen within a few hours (within four to six hours of our last food intake) if we skip meals :

The brain starts experiencing fuel shortage.
We become tired, sluggish, moody and irritable.
Our cognitive functions are affected, and we might have difficulty with attention, memory, concentration and general mental performance.

Here, it is imperative for us to know that if our sugar levels fluctuate between highs and lows then we must take proper corrective steps as per advice of our Doctors so that our dieting efforts are not compromised. Our skipping proper meals may contribute towards development of diabetes in later life as the insulin gets disturbed.

It is now known that skipping meals slows the metabolism down and as a result it can not break down food when it is provided with it as it finds it difficult to kick in and therefore, the food is bound to be transferred into fat more rapidly and get deposited in the places where we may not like to see it! A human body in starvation mode endeavors to find new source of energy and as a result, our metabolism starts transforming fat into energy. The action may sound good but it can result in subsequent serious health conditions as follows:

• nausea
• constipation
• fatigue
• kidney stress
• low blood pressure

Readers may like to know if I had developed all such adverse health conditions as I followed irregular eating habits and skipped proper meals frequently month after month. Yes readers, I have had all these adverse health conditions except nausea and as a result I had to pass time in the hospital under the watchful eyes of the doctors who treated me and then sent me back home with a bag full of instructions to follow!

I wish I had listened to my one well-wisher who lives far away from me on an island asking me repeatedly not to skip meals, specially the Breakfast!!

For further information on the subject, readers may kindly look for it on the net or consult medical journals. Happy Reading.

Bond And Bond Market.

Dear AEG,
Thank you so much AEG for your latest e mail telling me that you have since retired from active teaching job. I could not imagine what made you ask me to tell you everything that I know about bond and bond market.
Anyway, what ever the cause may be, I take this opportunity to let you know the salient features of a bond here under that may provide you the desired information that you have sought to know from me!.
At the same time, I must tell you to discuss the matter threadbare with an expert if you intend to buy bonds issued either by a large corporate body or by the government. You must not buy bonds on the basis of information given here under which is obviously academic in nature!

I trust that you know what a bond is though you may not know how a bond market operates.
Yet, I feel like telling you what is actually meant by the term Bonds?

The answer is not a complicated one.

Bonds are basically nothing but loans.

You will simply become a lender to an institution when you buy a bond issued by this particular institution for raising money to meet its financial requirements from time to time.

Like other loans, the lender earns interest on it until the bond reaches maturity. The interest is usually paid at specific intervals in the shape of dividend which is commonly known as coupon.

Hope,it is now clear to you that a bond is a loan that pays interest for a fixed period of time.

What happens when a bond matures at end of the term?
Nothing much except the principal amount of the bond is repaid in full to the lender or the owner of the bond as long as the institution does not go bankrupt!

Bonds are also known as Fixed-Income Securities in the financial markets as because the rate at which the interest is payable and the amount of each payment is fixed when bonds are offered for sale.

Therefore, some investors prefer to buy bonds as it is a less risky investment in comparison to other forms of investments where returns are not fixed.
Needless to mention here that bond’s interest rate has to be competitive for obvious reason.

It may also be noted here that “unlike stockholders, who have equity, or part ownership, in a company, bondholders are creditors.”
A bond is an IOU. It is a record of the money that a bondholder lends and the terms on which it will be repaid.

One can buy bonds issued by Corporations, by the Government Treasury, and by local government agencies etc.

Bonds that are issued by corporate bodies are known as corporate Bonds. They issue such bonds to raise capital to pay for expansion, modernization, to cover operating expenses, to finance corporate takeovers or other changes in management structures.

The Treasury bonds are those that are issued by the Government to pay for a wide range of Government activities and also to pay off the national debt.

Municipal bonds are issued by various local government agencies to pay for a wide variety of public projects and also to supplement their operating budgets.

We know that corporate bonds carry a higher degree of risk as well as return.
Government bonds, typically offer a modest return with low risk.

AEG, as a new would be investor, you must know, what are the forces that govern the performance of bonds and bond funds: interest rate sensitivity and credit risk for the safety of your hard earned money!
Until you could learn everything in this respect, it will not wise for you to go for such investment if you have decided to do so.

Perhaps, you have studied carefully what have been stated in the foregoing paragraphs. If you are still interested to learn more about Bond and other important things related to it, then drop me few lines.

To be continued on receipt of favorable feedback:

Man Of The Hole

Man of the Hole.

No, I am not telling here about Saddam Husain of Iraq who also lived in a hole for few months before he met his fate for the crimes that he committed when he was ruthlessly ruling Iraq! I am telling about someone who is a sole survivor of a massacred tribe.

Here under are the opening paragraphs of an e mail I received from Fiona Watson of Survival International. The appended opening paragraph of the e mail speaks for itself. As I felt for this sole survivor of an extinct tribe in Amazon, I have decided to share this portion of the e mail with other like minded members of this great site.

Quote…..
Dear friend,

He lives on his own, in complete silence, always on the run, always fearful, invisible to the world. This is the life of one solitary man in the Amazon. He’s the sole survivor of his tribe.

I first learnt about the so-called “Man of the Hole” on a research trip to the Brazilian Amazon with fieldworkers from the government’s Indian Affairs department. We were there to check that he was still alive. Walking through his forest we came into a clearing with a tiny thatched hut. Inside we found calabashes for storing water, dried nuts and a torch made from resin. We also found a hole in the centre of the hut - big enough for a person to hide in. Not wishing to encounter him, we did not linger, but I could sense his presence everywhere.

I've worked on Survival’s Brazil campaigns for more than two decades and was still profoundly moved by the Man of the Hole's story. It is believed that his tribe was massacred by cattle ranchers in the late 80s. When he dies the genocide of his people will be complete.
Unquote…

Human greed knows no bound. The cattle ranchers who are believed to have massacred this man’s tribe do claim themselves human beings too. Are they really human beings, dear readers?

Happy reading:

A Time to Remember----A Time To Forget.

Let us imagine the present day Afghanistan. And let us compare it with a beautiful country that was Afghanistan before 1970. Perhaps many of us could not even remember Afghanistan that thrived once upon a time across Khyber Pass that connects it with its eastern neighbor Pakistan.

Due to Afghanistan’s strategic location along the Silk Road, the country has been the home to various peoples and had to bear the brunt of numerous military invasions; notably by Alexander, Muslim Arabs, Mongols, British, Soviet Russians, and in the modern-era by Western powers. It played a role of a buffer state between British India, and the Russian Empire.

Following 1919, King Amanullah modernized the country. However, the country is now a devastated one. The suffering of the people of Afghanistan is beyond our imagination. Millions of Afghans lived in the refugee camps in Pakistan following soviet invasion and civil wars.

The worst sufferers are the women of Afghanistan.

" In fact, UN Women chief Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, has described violence against women in Afghanistan as “pandemic” with 87.2 percent of women experiencing some form of physical, psychological, sexual, economic or social violence". It is contrary to the position that Afghan women held in this country before Taliban took over the control of the country.
Those who are not aware of the fact, I take this opportunity to post here under some photos of Afghan women taken before 1970,

Appended pictures, shot at different times "from the 1950s and 60s, depict a very different Afghanistan; one where female students sat next to their male peers, where girls scouts worked along with boy scouts, where, in parks and playgrounds, buses and record stores, hospitals and schools, women were seen in equal numbers as men".

I would also like to mention that things have improved a lot now in the areas where Taliban exercise no control. Happy viewing, dear readers:
